The grown-ups hate the Pit (gropen). They think we shouldn’t play there because you could die.
“At least fall and hurt yourself!” says Eva.
“Once I fell and hurt myself,” I say. “But it wasn’t in the Pit — it was in the gym, when Hannes jumped from the wall bars and landed on me instead of the mat.”
Eva doesn’t answer. She just presses her lips together and looks away.
“The Pit is still bad,” she mutters.
